Education Topic: Advocacy in Action: Right to Garden

Allison Welch, WOGC Board Member and Lakewood resident, will lead a discussion on the topic of working with cities to promote front yard native gardens.  As part of the discussion, she'll share information about a recent ordinance in Lakewood Ohio requiring native front yard gardens to be set back 2' from sidewalks and side property lines, which greatly reduces gardening space in small yards.  We'll share resources and ideas for how to work with cities and communities on advocating for native front yard gardens.

About Allison Welch: Allison is WOGC Board member and has worked in horticulture at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Kendal at Oberlin and is an active member of the Lakewood Tree Advisory and Education Board. Allison is also pursuing a degree in Sustainable Agriculture at LCCC.

Kick off summer solstice weekend with Wild Ones Greater Cleveland! Bring your friends, family, favorite songs, and help us welcome the start of summer together.

Feel free to bring a camping chair or lawn chair for extra seating and comfort.

Please register so we have an idea of attendance and can prepare accordingly, and so we can inform you in case of date change if the weather doesn't cooperate. We can’t wait to jam with you!

Join us for a fun and relaxing Volunteer Appreciation Day! This special gathering is all about celebrating and thanking the incredible people who help make Wild Ones Greater Cleveland possible.

Whether you volunteered once for an hour, helped at an event, supported behind the scenes, or have been involved for years — you are absolutely invited and appreciated. Come enjoy good food, warm company, conversation, and time together with fellow volunteers and native plant enthusiasts.

The event will be hosted at Jessica’s home and is simply about showing our appreciation for everything you’ve contributed, big or small. We’d love to spend the day with you!

Parking - Some parking will be available at the house. Additional street parking will be available on Crosby Street just South of the house and a short walk.

Relax and snack in Ray's garden for a social (and a little education and inspiration!). We'll have a little finger food and summer beverage. Tour the yard to see how a rain garden works and check out what's in bloom. 

Plants in the nursery are for sale. We have Pawpaw, Black Chokeberry, Elderberry, Downysunflowers, Compass Plant and so much more.
